The Nurse Educator Leading Change to Support Diverse Learners

Assignment

Purpose

The purpose of this assignment is to explore the responsibility of the nurse educator as a change agent in supporting diverse learners by (a) fostering a learning environment of diversity, equity, and inclusion and (b) writing an educational policy that ensures equity for diverse learners and social justice in the classroom.

Instructions

Approach this assignment as a clinical or academic DNP nurse educator. As you examine your responsibility to provide a learning environment for all students, contemplate the actions you can take to improve teaching and curricular approaches that include students with diverse learning needs, especially those who may be challenged by biased educational and social systems, social injustice, and inequality. Address how you might create a learning environment that fosters a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion, including the creation of an educational policy for your setting that addresses educational social justice.

The Week 3 assignment provides students with flexible learning formats. The following sections can be presented either as an APA narrative paper or a PowerPoint presentation. The presentation content (what would be discovered in the paragraphs of the APA paper) is presented in the speaker notes at the bottom of all slides except the reference slide. PowerPoint slides have minimal visual cues or bullets (minimum of 6) that represent the content in the speaker notes.

If you choose to make a PowerPoint, it must meet all the requirements of the assignment rubric, including PowerPoint content on each slide.  The reference slide should be in APA format, but the font can be as small as 8, and no speaker notes are required on the reference slide.
