Instructions: This Competency Assessment assesses the following outcome(s): 

HA415M3-3: Distinguishing the role of the local, state and national policy makers. 

It is important to understand the process of how ideas become regulations and rules and how rules and regulations become policy and laws for the nursing home industry. Imagine yourself as a public speaker trying to simply explain this path on the local, state, and national level to a bipartisan group of nursing home administrators. Your explanation should show the story of how healthcare policy is produced and how that policy impacts the nursing home industry.

Instructions

Create a visual depiction using any tool you wish (graphs, charts, figures, pictures or PowerPoint®) to explain the process of how ideas become regulations and rules and how rules and regulations become policy and laws on the local, state, and national levels for the nursing home industry. Research the path of how local, state, and national rules, regulations, and laws are created and include the knowledge you find from this research into the visual depiction you create. The depiction should be concise and easy to understand. For example, no more than five PowerPoint slides if PowerPoint is used or no more than 2 pages of graphs, charts, figures, or pictures if Word® is used. APA is not required except for the references section. You must include two (2) scholarly resources.

Writer visually depicts how the process impacts the nursing home industry.

Minimum Submission Requirements 

  • This Assessment should be a Microsoft Word (max 2 pages) or PowerPoint® presentation (max 5 slides), in addition to the title and reference pages/slides.
  • Respond to the questions in a thorough manner, providing specific examples of concepts, topics, definitions, and other elements asked for in the questions. Your submission should be highly organized, logical, and focused.
  • Your submission must be written in Standard English and demonstrate exceptional content, organization, style, and grammar and mechanics.
  • Your submission should provide a clearly established and sustained viewpoint and purpose.
  • Your writing should be well ordered, logical and unified, as well as original and insightful.
  • A separate page/slide at the end of your submission should contain a list of references, in APA format. Use your textbook, the Library, and the internet for research.
  • Be sure to cite both in-text and reference list citations where appropriate and reference all sources. Your sources and content should follow proper APA citation style. Review the writing resources for APA formatting and citation found in Academic Tools. Additional writing resources can be found within the Academic Success Center.
  • Your submission should:
    • include a cover sheet;
    • be double-spaced;
    • be typed in Times New Roman, 12 -point font;
    • include correct citations
    • be written in Standard English with no spelling or punctuation errors; and
    • include correct references on the last slide. 

If work submitted for this competency assessment does not meet the minimum submission requirements, it will be returned without being scored.
